The Journey Of A Lifetime

Sample Itinerary - Northland

Welcome

I'm beyond excited that you have chosen New Zealand as your latest destination to explore. It is a truly magical oasis and it brings me great joy to be able to share what I know and love with you.

Northland is a special place, diverse in beauty with spectacular natural features, rich in history, and the best sub-tropical weather and beaches in New Zealand.

You could spend ages in Northland exploring but five days is a great way to get a solid taster for this relatively untouched region!

Don't forget to save this itinerary offline on your phone so that you can refer back to it at any point on your journey!

So you can get a rough idea of distances. Remember, New Zealand roads can be treacherous so make sure to allow more time in case of bad weather, traffic or stopping to take in the views.

Helpful Tips

Beware, there aren't a large number of service stations on the main road (or anywhere) up north so if you need to fill up with petrol, make sure you do it at any opportunity you can, you don't want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere.

1.

Just to clarify, as I know it can be confusing, the Bay of Islands is the whole region which also encompasses Paihia, Russell and over 140 islands in that Bay.

3.

Always take sunscreen and a hat with you wherever you go in New Zealand. The sun is very very strong due to the hole in the ozone layer which inconveniently is right over New Zealand. Slip, slop, slap!

5.

Make sure to look at the sky, especially at sunset. The northern part of the island has some of the most spectacular sunsets and cloud formations that are worth looking out for.

2.

Avoid at all costs, the motorways during peak hour. The congestion on Auckland's roads is beyond a joke and if you try to go long distances early in the morning or late afternoon, it will take forever. Try to plan around these times by using them for other things you want to do such as brunch, early dinner or drinks!
